So what's a Video New Release?
When Josephine Crawford, an
85-year-old New Jersey widow, won a $10 million slot machine jackpot at
Harrah’s Atlantic City in April 2006, Atlantic Coast Productions told the world
about her good fortune.
Less than an hour after the record-breaking jackpot hit, ACP’s cameras were at Harrah’s to capture all the excitement and news worthy angles that surrounded the biggest slot machine jackpot in Atlantic City history.
By the time other media descended on the property hours later, ACP’s production crew was already editing the raw video. A support team booked a satellite news feed and began distributing an alert to every television network and station in the country. The edited tape was delivered to a satellite uplink facility and beamed skyward to a satellite in geosynchronous orbit 22,000 miles above Earth. The signal was relayed through the satellite and available to any station that wanted to take the feed and use the material. Arrangements were made to track the results of the feed, and the numbers were staggering. The video aired more than 800 times around the world during the first 24 hours. A tracking report of the top 26 domestic markets revealed more than 88 million television viewers saw the footage, which represented an estimated incremental ad value of $50 million for Harrah’s Atlantic City.
Recently, the process has become even more immediate in nature. Now we can compress the video into an electronic file like Quicktime and deliver it directly to the news producer so they can get it up on the newscast. This eliminates the need and expense of satellite delivery. Television networks and stations no longer need to downlink the video at a specific time, thus freeing them up for their live shots.
Producing a Video News Release is one of Atlantic Coast Productions specialties. VNRs can be tailored to deliver the news you want to the markets you want to reach. Our services include using email to send VNR Alerts to television stations and/or networks around the country – or around the planet.
