Favorites of ACP
Unfortunately in our business, the focus is usually "what have you done lately?" Well, we're pretty proud of our past and it shines as bright as the future. Plus, its just plain fun to look back on some great times. Many of these "greatest hits" go back to the days before Youtube, before Quicktime... some even before the days of Final Cut and other non-linear editing systems. We'll keep on adding the "oldies" to this page as we dig through the tape vault and digitize our favorite hits. Many more to come...
2001 Sixers Playoff OpenThe 2000-2001 Sixers season was a wonderful ride for ACP. We worked closely with the Sixer game operations staff to produce in-game videos for the giant scoreboard monitor in the arena. Its an entirely different way of thinking (advice: simple works best in a giant crowd atmosphere). This was the video we produced for the player intros right before the playoffs and finals. The arena went dark and then the video got the show started. It finished with explosions of course. Its the greatest feeling to get a rise out of a 21,000 fans. Its even more amazing when Bob Costas said it was the best in the NBA after it aired on NBC during the Finals. It still gives us chills.

'03-'04 Sixers Game OpenerJust like the above 2001 Playoff opener, this was the video we produced for the player intros right before tip off of the regular season games. The arena went dark and then the video got the show started. This was the one we used for opening night and the following few weeks. Glenn Robinson was a new player on the team and we really didn't have a "Big Dog" highlight to put in there. Re-edited it later when we were able to get one.

Sixers Commercial Reel #1This is just Reel #1 because I'm sure we will be uploading many others. ACP averaged 15-20 TV spots a season for the Sixers from 1997-2006 because they had a very active and dynamic marketing team. On this reel:
1. Basketball According to Larry Brown - a spot that aired during the summer before his 1st season. 2. Sixer Office Basketball - a spot we created to jump start sales right after the bitter '98-'99 NBA Lockout. We shot it weeks before the end of the dispute. We couldn't use any players while it was going on and we knew coaches wouldn't be available as soon it got close. The tone had to be just right, so we focused on the whole Sixer family being just as anxious to get the season started as the fans. The spot began airing on the day the lockout ended. 3. Sixer 40th Season Anniversary - The Sixers were back in winning form after a long drought. We needed to connect the team to the glory teams of the past. Aired pre-season 4. Sixer 40th Season Anniversary with Alf - this was one of many connecting spots to the 40th campaign. This was an image spot used to promote the TV game broadcasts. 5. Thank You! - This was a thank you spot for the amazing support the fans gave during the '99 playoffs. About 80-90% of the shots were done by ACP and not TV game footage. |
2003 Flyers TV AdMaking an ad for the Flyers is a dream come true for any hockey fan in the Philly area.
I guess its obvious... we are big fans. When cutting video for hockey, its all about hits on the boards, goals and saves. It's fast and the fans are in to it. Action and intensity. All the makings for a fun simple ad that if you don't over think it, cuts itself. |
2003 Field Of Dreams PromoField of Dreams is a baseball field in Absecon, NJ that is designed and specially built for kids with disabilities. It started off as a dream by a grandfather of a kid who couldn't play baseball because of his wheelchair. In less than a year's time. it became a special real place built by friends, family and a community. It's now the model for other Field of Dreams programs all around the country. The only way we could screw this one up is to clutter it up with animation and too many cuts. The kids are it. Keep the focus on them. Follow the music and get out of the way. The video has been a big hit for them at fundraisers all over the Delaware Valley. They are still using it ten years later and its still one of Jake's favorite videos he has ever shot and edited.

Sixers Commercial Reel #2Here's some more favorites we recently digitized from our extensive tape library.
1. New Spirit - We made this ad right after the team electrified Philly with its first legit playoff run in years. The team now had a core that played hard and fast. The crowd loved it and our cameras were everywhere to capture the great atmosphere they generated. The team was still young so the Sixer marketing staff couldn't really promise "winning" NBA Basketball. But they could promise and sell a great exciting atmosphere for the next season ('99-'00) and that is what this ad does. 2. It's Time - This was for the 2002 playoff run. The team had a rocky regular season coming off their thrilling '01 Finals season. However the team finished strong and was poised for another gutty playoff run. Insider production note: due to a variety scheduling problems, we had exactly one take to use of AI saying "Its time". Had to make it work. It does. 3. Bobblefinger! - One of the things the marketing team was brilliant at was promotions and we made dozens of ads for every possible giveaway you could think off. However, the budget for them was usually significantly less (as was the shelf-life) but it didn't mean we couldn't have fun. 4. Iverson Celebriduck - The Sixers were the first team to give away a custom rubber duckie. And they got the idea to tie it together with "The Admiral" coming into town for the last time... which connected to Gilligan. OK, you got to go with the water and boat theme here. It was huge. Total sell out, incredible news coverage and Bob Denver came to the game. We flew to Denver's home in Bluefield, West Virgina to get his hand in the tub with the duckie and his line. Now that's a memory for a TV geek! 5. Gumby - Another amazing giveaway night and we actually worked with Art Clokey Jr. to make this spot. Gumby was a great guy and really flexible to work with. |
